Dabo Swinney, Clemson
Dabo Swinney is the youngest head coach in the ACC and one of the youngest in the country. His resumé is already stuffed with many significant accomplishments on a school, ACC, and national level. In October of 2008, he was named Clemson interim head coach, replacing Tommy Bowden. He led the Tigers to a 4-2 record over the remainder of the regular season, including a victory over rival South Carolina. That strong finish led to a Gator Bowl bid against Nebraska. He was named the program's head coach in early 2009. In addition to leading the program to three bowl games on the field in his young career, his players have also excelled in the classroom. In his career as a head coach, his players have an APR score of 982, third-best among active FBS level coaches and best in the ACC. His teams are known for exceptional defense and in 2010 the Tigers were 13th in the nation in scoring defense and in the top 25 in both total defense and pass defense.
Frank Beamer, Virginia Tech
When Frank Beamer accepted the job as head football coach at his alma mater in 1987, his goal was for the Virginia Tech football program to reach a consistent level of excellence. The Hokies have come a long way since then, and, along the way, Beamer has become one of the most respected and successful coaches on the college football scene. Under Beamer, Tech football has enjoyed unprecedented success with 18 consecutive bowl appearances, four ACC titles, four ACC Coastal Division crowns, three BIG EAST Conference titles, two “major” bowl victories and a trip to the national championship game. Since the beginning of the 1995 season, only Ohio State and Florida have posted more wins than Virginia Tech, and the Hokies have finished in the Top 20 in 16 of the past 19 seasons, including six top-10 finishes during the last 13 years.
Paul Rhoads, Iowa State
Paul Rhoads was announced as the 31st head coach of the Iowa State Cyclones on December 20, 2008. Rhoads had previously spent time at Iowa State as an assistant coach in the late nineties. Rhoads’ first year as head coach led to a season of first. He opened his ISU career with a win over FCS North Dakota State. He also led Iowa State to a victory at Kent State in his first year, ending a 17 game road losing streak.[8]In the same season, Rhoads and the Cyclones defeated Baylor to end an 11 game losing stretch against conference opponents. [9]On October 24, 2009, the Cyclones defeated Nebraska in Lincoln for the first time since 1977. Paul Rhoads is the first Iowa State coach to win six games in his initial season since 1915. His initail season was capped off with an Insight Bowl victory over Minnesota. In 2010 the firsts continued as ISU defeated Texas for the first time in program history
Joker Phillips, Kentucky Wildcats
During the 2004 season, Joker Phillips was named offensive coordinator of the Kentucky Wildcats and that led to a rejuvenation of Kentucky's offensive scheme. Under Phillips' balanced offense. In his first full season as offensive coordinator, Kentucky finished with a 8-5 record and defeated Clemson in the 2006 Music City Bowl. In 2007, Kentucky finished the season with another 8-5 record, defeating Florida State in the 2007 Music City Bowl. Winning the Music City Bowl for the second year in a row was the first time the Wildcats had won two consecutive bowls in over 50 years. The Wildcats finished in the top 15 nationally in points scored per game and averaged 460 yards of offense. In 2008 the Wildcats finished 7-6 with a victory over East Carolina in the Liberty Bowl. In January 2008, Phillips was named as Rich Brooks' successor, and his title was changed to "head coach of the offense." He was named head coach of the Wildcats on January 4, 2010.
